THE BRIEF

Sports specialist Holcim was delighted to partner the London Lionesses to resurface their existing 3G football pitch in Aylesford.

London City Lionesses is a professional women’s association football club based in Hayes, Bromley, England. The team competes in the Women’s Super League, the first tier of English women’s football. The club was founded in May 2019, as an independent breakaway club from Millwall Lionesses.

They acquired their 28 acre Training Ground site, Cobdown Park in June 2024, with ambitions to establish a Centre of Excellence for the development of Women and Girls’ football.

London City Lionesses received a Tier One Professional Game Academy license from the Football Association in May 2023, allowing the Club to provide elite-level player pathway provision for players from London and the South East.

Since then the club has been making this space a home for four academy teams and first team, who are newly promoted to the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The academy is comprised of four squads, ranging from the Under-14s to the Under-21s.

The Solution

As part of the project, the existing synthetic grass carpet was carefully removed and responsibly disposed of by a licensed waste carrier. Following the removal, minor repairs were made to the underlying shockpad to enhance surface regularity and ensure a consistent playing experience.

The pitch was resurfaced using the Premier Pro Elite 3G synthetic grass system at a 50mm pile height. This state-of-the-art product is manufactured from a resilient blend of monofilament and fibrillated tape yarns, designed to deliver professional-level durability and playability.

Premier Pro Elite features a unique fibre structure that accommodates the use of organic performance infill alternatives in place of traditional polymeric options. In addition to offering environmental benefits, this advanced construction also helps reduce infill splash, ensuring a cleaner and more consistent playing surface.
