Type 1 Recycled Aggregates – Sustainable Sub-Base for Construction

A durable, eco-friendly sub-base made from processed salvaged materials, including construction demolition waste (CDM).

One of the most popular materials for any properly constructed foundation is Type 1 aggregates – they’re durable, sustainable, and cost-effective. Type 1 Recycled Aggregates provide all the same benefits as traditional, virgin aggregates while offering an alternative eco-friendly entrance into the circular economy.

The composition of our Type 1 Recycled Aggregate depends on the salvaged materials available on creation, which can include materials from demolished structures, roadworks, other construction waste or industrial bi-products like slag or waste materials from manufacturing. All of our recycled content is WRAP compliant (Waste & Resources Action Programme) and is the most sustainable option for your next project.

A recycled Type 1 guarantees a solid and enduring base while helping you meet your sustainability goals, making it an ideal choice for a multitude of applications.

Benefits

Sustainable Choice

Decreases the need for finite natural resources, while also preventing waste from ending up in landfills. Choosing recycled aggregates also significantly lowers the carbon footprint of your project.

Cost-Effective

A more economical option compared to using raw or virgin natural resources. You’re not only optimising your project’s costs but also supporting sustainable practices that benefit the environment.

Excellent Compaction

A well-graded mixture of crushed stone and fine materials allows a Type 1 Recycled Aggregate to compact tightly and create a solid, stable sub-base layer. The ability to form a dense, interlocking structure ensures minimal movement or settlement over time, providing long-term stability to any surface built on top of it.

Why Type 1 Recycled Aggregates?

Our Type 1 complies to all standards outlined in SHW Clause 803, making this an approved sub-base in the construction sector, ideal for use in the construction of roads, highways, and pathways. High-quality recycled aggregates meet or exceed industry standards for strength, durability, and grading. They undergo rigorous quality control, ensuring they perform reliably in demanding applications such as road construction, foundations, and drainage.

Following demolition, construction demolition material (CDM) from your site can be brought back as a Type 1 Recycled Aggregate making your project an integral part of meeting your ESG goals. Recycling CDM saves it from a lifetime in a landfill, while providing an enduring and environmentally friendly base to your project.

Applications
  • Sub-bases for roads, driveways, and car parks: Provides a strong and stable foundation.
  • Hardstandings: Ideal for creating level and durable surfaces.
  • Building foundations: Offers a reliable base for structures.
  • General fill material: Suitable for backfilling trenches and excavations.
  • Oversite fill: Used to raise ground levels.
  • Pathways and patios: Can be used as a stable base layer.

Specification

  • Complies to all standards outlined in SHW Clause 803
  • Approved sub-base in the construction sector
  • Makeup varies depending on available recycled materials. Primarily crushed concrete and brick, with minimal amounts of other inert materials (e.g., asphalt, natural stone).
