Holcim launches 2027 apprenticeships to help build future skills
Holcim UK has opened applications for its 2027 apprenticeship scheme, offering people the chance to develop the skills needed to support the future of construction and the built environment.
The recruitment drive comes as the UK construction sector faces a significant workforce challenge. According to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), an average of 41,200 additional workers will be needed each year between 2026 and 2030 to meet future demand and replace those leaving the industry.
With approximately 4,000 employees across approximately 200 sites, Holcim UK is investing in the next generation of technical, operational and business talent to support its ambition to make sustainable construction a reality.
The sustainable building solutions provider employs over 120 apprentices across its UK operations, reflecting its ongoing commitment to developing future talent and providing opportunities to build long-term careers in the construction industry.
A variety of apprenticeships are now available to apply for in the following specialisms:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Higher Apprenticeships
- Materials Lab Technician
- Fixed Plant Operative
- Quantity Surveying
- Estimating
- HR Data Analyst
The roles are available in several key locations at Holcim’s UK sites in the Midlands, London and South East, North West and Yorkshire, South West, North East and Scotland. Successful applicants will combine paid employment with practical experience, structured learning and recognised qualifications, supported by experienced colleagues and specialist education partners.
Hazel Mooney, People Director at Holcim UK, said: “I’m really pleased to be able to offer a range of apprenticeships across the Holcim UK business for our 2027 scheme.
“There are a variety of roles and specialisms across some of our key locations around the country and we really want to help attract that next generation of the Holcim team to help us make sustainable construction a reality.
“Within this industry it is well documented that there is an ageing workforce. This makes it increasingly vital for us to attract people at the start of their employment journey to build a career with us.
“Apprenticeships offer an incredible opportunity to learn core workplace skills through on-the-ground experience, while being supported through our partners' learning packages in order to gain a qualification. All while earning a wage.”
Gemma Parkinson, an apprentice Quantity Surveyor in the second year of her apprenticeship, said: “I chose an apprenticeship because I knew my style of learning was more hands-on. An apprenticeship gives you that work experience as well as being supported through learning at university.”
Archie Thompson, an apprentice in the Submissions Team within Holcim’s Contracting business, said: “I chose the apprenticeship route because it gave me the opportunity to gain practical experience from a young age. Working alongside people with so much experience and knowledge has been a great way to develop my skills, learn new things and build my confidence.
“Working at Holcim has opened the door to so many opportunities that I may not have had otherwise. The apprenticeship has allowed me to gain experience in different areas of the business, take on new challenges and develop both personally and professionally while building a career at the same time.”
The programme offers applicants the opportunity to contribute to projects across Holcim's UK operations while developing technical and professional skills that can support long-term careers.
Applications are open for a range of opportunities across England and Scotland, with eligibility criteria, locations, start dates and application deadlines varying by role.
