holcim's newest express asphalt plant opens in sharpness
Following a successful acquisition earlier this year, Holcim UK’s newest Express Asphalt plant has officially opened in Sharpness, Gloucestershire.
Holcim UK purchased the facility from Sharpness Asphalt Limited in June 2025. Located beside the wharf, the site has undergone more than four months of remedial and improvement works to bring it up to Holcim’s high operational standards and is now fully open for production.
The reopening marks a major boost for local construction and road maintenance businesses across the region, offering quicker access to quality asphalt and reducing the need for long journeys to other depots.
Express Asphalt sites specialise in small-load collections, guaranteeing 30-minute turnaround times* for single product loads. The Sharpness site also provides tip-off facilities, an on-site shop selling tools and refreshments, and free Wi-Fi and toilet facilities - all designed with customer convenience in mind.
Simon Wycherley, Express Asphalt Director at Holcim UK, said: “The opening of the Sharpness site underlines our continued investment in the asphalt business and our commitment to improving customer experience and convenience.
“After months of hard work, it’s fantastic to see the site back in operation and ready to serve local customers.
“Sharpness strengthens our Express Asphalt network across the South West and helps us support the growing demand for high-quality, locally produced asphalt.”
The Sharpness plant forms part of Holcim UK’s expanding network of Express Asphalt locations, providing reliable, accessible supply points for contractors, councils and utility companies across the UK.
