The acquisition will reinforce Holcim UK’s position in the asphalt market in the UK and supports the company’s growth strategy.

Holcim UK has purchased the plant from Sharpness Asphalt Limited which holds an accessible location next to the wharf in the Sharpness area of Gloucester.

It will close for a number of weeks for remedial works and aims to reopen next month as a Holcim Express Asphalt site.

These sites specialise in collection of small loads, which means it can guarantee 30 minute turnaround times* on single product loads. While also providing tip-off facilities, an on site shop selling ancillary items and refreshments, free WiFi and toilet facilities.

Lee Sleight, Chief Executive Officer of Holcim UK, said: “We are pleased to announce the acquisition of the Sharpness plant and are looking forward to it being part of Holcim in the UK.

“This acquisition further strengthens our position in the asphalt market and bolsters our presence in the Gloucester and south west area. We see it as being a perfect fit for our Express Asphalt business and we are excited to see what it can offer to customers in the area.”
