peak cluster announces project update webinar
Peak Cluster is a collaboration of industry leaders, including four of the region’s cement and lime producers. Tarmac, Buxton Lime, Breedon, and Holcim, who between them employ around 2000 people directly and indirectly in Derbyshire and Staffordshire, have come together to transform how these essential materials are produced.
The infrastructure being developed will capture, transport, and store carbon dioxide (CO2) which is unavoidably generated as a by-product of cement and lime manufacturing. Peak Cluster, together with storage partner MNZ, will support the sector to transition to operate successfully in a future low carbon economy.
Together, MNZ |Peak Cluster will:
- Create and safeguard 13,000 jobs
- Attract combined investment of around £5 billion in construction of new infrastructure
- Decarbonise 40% of the UK’s cement and lime industry
- Generate an increase of £154m in skills uplift and wage increases
- Create a supply of 'British made’ sustainable cement and lime
Within the webinar, the project team will explain to local residents, businesses and community why Peak Cluster is important, what the project will involve, and how the local community can help shape the project. There will also be ample time for questions.
John Egan, CEO of Peak Cluster Ltd said: “The region’s cement and lime sector has provided quality jobs for generations of employees and remains at the heart of the local economy. Peak Cluster intends to build on this industrial heritage, creating an exciting new chapter for the industry and bolster wider businesses, communities and livelihoods.
“This webinar is an opportunity for those living and working in the region to stay informed and ask the team questions.”
