Holcim UK Donation Drives Transformation of Hulland Ward Village Hall Car Par

Through Holcim UK’s donation of £2,000 worth of concrete building materials, Hulland Ward Parish Council extended its Millenium Village Hall car park, boosting capacity and easing local congestion.

The Millenium Village Hall is at the heart of the Hulland Ward local community, providing a venue space for various activities, from yoga classes to wedding receptions. The car park, which is also used by Christ Church next to the hall, was no longer fit for purpose with an increasing amount of vehicles needing parking space over the years.

The overflow of visitors meant parking spilled over onto Dog Lane and other country lanes, causing heavy congestion and poor traffic flow, and making it more hazardous for people and cars using the roads.

Holcim’s Hulland Ward site, which produces its innovative and sustainable concrete products, is located approximately one mile away from Hulland Ward village. Already holding a close working relationship with the Council, the leading provider of building materials stepped in to donate kerbs, blocks, and edgings to help extend the car park and make the roads safer for when formal events and functions are on at the hall.

“The Parish Council would like to thank the team at Holcim for the support they have received which enabled the extending of the Village Hall car park.”

The expanded car park was officially opened by Len Neale, ex-parish councillor in a ribbon cutting ceremony. The capacity of the car park has now doubled in size.

Antony Brookes, Regional Operations Manager at Holcim UK and project lead, said: “Holcim has a strong connection with Hulland Ward. When we heard the village hall car park needed extending, we were more than happy to play our part and provide the necessary products from our nearby concrete manufacturing facility.”

Holcim is committed to circularity in construction as part of its ambition to make sustainable building a reality. To align with this, Holcim also provided the car park with recycled sand and 6F5, a recycled aggregate made from crushing demolition waste.

Alan Brown Surfacing Ltd, a local construction company, worked with the Parish Council to produce the design work for the project, and install the materials.

Brenda Kirkham, Clerk at Hulland Ward Parish Council, said: “The Parish Council would like to thank the team at Holcim for the support they have received which enabled the extending of the Village Hall car park.”
