Hydracrete®
Concrete for Underwater Placement

Anti-Washout Concrete for Placement in Marine and Aquatic Environments

Hydracrete® is a modified ready-mixed concrete specifically designed for placement into still or moving water with minimal washout. In marine and water environments, it is essential that concrete placement does not result in high washout or loss of strength and durability, and Hydracrete provides the ideal construction solution. The concrete has an increased ability to hold itself together (thixotropic action), preventing segregation of the mix and minimising impact to the surrounding environment while maintaining high workability with no bleeding.

Benefits

Icon of a bar graph with an arrow moving up
Minimal Washout

Increased ability to hold itself together, drastically reducing cement paste washed out by the surrounding water, preserving the mix design.

Icon showing natural bugs, fish, birds and plants
Environmental Protection

Minimises the impact to the surrounding flora and fauna environments by reducing turbidity and material loss.

High Workability

Maintains a high workability and low permeability, yet requires no compactive effort once installed, simplifying placement in difficult access areas.

Why HYDRACRETE®

Hydracrete is a high-performance concrete designed to ensure long-term durability in aggressive aquatic environments. The thixotropic action of the concrete provides almost immediate stiffening after placement, while its low permeability offers strong resistance to water ingress. It can be placed in tidal, static, or running conditions by pump or tremie pipe directly to the point of placement, making it ideal for the most demanding applications.

Due to the enhanced durability of Hydracrete, it can provide a cost saving over conventional products when comparing whole-life performance costs. It is manufactured under strict quality and environmental standards, and its formulation is designed to have little or no effect on the water-cement ratio of the concrete.

Applications

Ideal for:

  • Marine & Coastal Defences: Essential for construction in tidal areas, harbours, and coastal sea defences.
  • Water Infrastructure: Ideal for bridge abutments, culverts, river crossings, and foundations placed below the water table.
  • Difficult Access: Used in demanding applications where conventional placement and compaction methods are impractical or impossible.
  • Sub-Aqueous Repair: Suitable for repair and construction of underwater structural elements.
